About Me

Hi there! I'm Laura Pankratz, your Miss Lake County 2013! I'm so proud to be representing my county this year at Miss California. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I was born and raised in Lake County, a beautiful place to grow up. I've been very involved with my community from an early age and that's how I started working on my platform titled "Beauty Starts on the Inside." I learned the most about eating healthy at Camp Watta Watta where I was a counselor for children. I loved the camp and the ideas so much that I continued doing this camp for 4 years until they ran out of funding to keep it going. This program educated children on the five keys to wellness and making “green light” food choices. During the Camp Watta Watta day camp, we did learning activities and physical activities based on kind words, positive choices, and most importantly, fun!

But that's not the only thing I'm involved with. For the past few years, I've been a volunteer with the Clear Lake High School Sports Foundation. It is a non-profit organization created by a group of alumni, parents of current students, coaches and community members for the purpose of improving the sports facilities and programs at Clear Lake High School. Their objective and purpose is to organize fund raising events and donate the proceeds to Clear Lake High School sports facilities and athletic programs.

Volunteering with these organizations have helped me grow as a person and taught me a lot about being kind to everyone. One of my favorite quotes is that it's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

My dream is that in my year of service as Miss Lake County, I will make a big difference and leave a positive mark upon our community. I want to educate on the importance of healthy eating and what it can do for your self-esteem. We have to start on the inside to help others feel better about their own bodies. I hope that through all my work I can be an inspiration to my peers, young and old, as well as generations to come.
